PORT, HISTORY & SHOPPING
Hoorn
Hoorn is a charming port city on Lake Markermeer, about a 20-minute drive from our park. During the Golden Age, Hoorn was an important city of the Dutch East India Company (VOC), and you can still see traces of that everywhere. Stroll along the old harbor to the Hoofdtoren, built in 1532, where Bontekoe’s shipboys peer out over the water from the quay wall. On the Roode Steen, grab a seat on a sidewalk café nestled among the historic facades, and enjoy some leisurely shopping in the shopping streets. A fun option if you’re visiting with children: the museum steam tram departs from Hoorn Station for Medemblik.

Stroll along the quays toward the Hoofdtoren and give a quick wave to Bontekoe’s Shipboys.
Stroll through the shopping streets and settle down at a sidewalk café on the lively Roode Steen square.
Stroll through the historic downtown, discover charming boutiques, and enjoy a drink on a patio or a gourmet dinner.
From Hoorn Station, you’ll travel by steam tram—just like in the old days—right through the West Frisian countryside toward Medemblik.
